DOWNLOAD VS UPLOAD

Download brings data to you. Upload sends data away from you. Many internet plans allocate different capacity to each direction.

NETWORK / TRAFFIC DIRECTION

DOWNLOAD CAPACITY

Streaming video, loading websites, receiving game files and downloading software primarily consume downstream capacity. High download throughput can shorten large transfers, but it does not automatically mean low latency or strong upload performance.

UPLOAD CAPACITY

Cloud backup, sending files, livestream publishing and outbound video-call data depend on upload capacity. An asymmetric connection may provide hundreds of megabits downstream but only a small fraction of that rate upstream.

SATURATION CAN AFFECT RESPONSE TIME

Using nearly all available capacity in either direction can also increase latency on some links. That is why a complete connection check may need download, upload, idle latency and latency-under-load evidence rather than only one Mbps value.

PLAN NUMBERS ARE NOT TRANSFER GUARANTEES

Advertised rates describe service capacity under the provider's terms. Real application throughput also depends on protocol overhead, Wi-Fi, devices, routing and the remote service.
