ABOUT 0BPS

Why 0bps exists, how the toolkit is designed and what you should expect from its results.

PURPOSE / PRACTICAL NETWORK TOOLS

MEASURE EVERY BIT — WITH CONTEXT.

0bps is a browser-first collection of network measurement, bandwidth, bitrate, addressing and media utilities. The project is built around a simple idea: a useful technical tool should show a result quickly, explain what that result means, and be clear about the boundary between measurement, calculation and interpretation.

The site does not require an account for its public tools. Many calculations run entirely in the browser. Supported media-analysis tools inspect browser-readable metadata locally rather than intentionally uploading the selected file. Network tests that require an external measurement path are identified separately in the methodology.

WHY THE TOOLS ARE SEPARATE

Internet performance is not one number. Throughput, latency, jitter, loaded latency, transfer time and bitrate answer different questions. A fast download result can coexist with poor interactive responsiveness, and a mathematically correct bitrate conversion cannot predict a remote server's transfer speed. 0bps keeps those concepts distinct so the user can choose the signal that matches the problem.

HOW TO USE 0BPS WELL

For troubleshooting, begin with a specific symptom and repeat measurements under similar conditions. If possible, change one variable at a time: Ethernet versus Wi-Fi, VPN on versus off, a different device, router position or time of day. For calculators, verify the units and assumptions before applying an output to a real system. The reference pages explain the concepts behind the tools instead of treating the interface as self-explanatory.

WHAT 0BPS DOES NOT CLAIM

A browser measurement is not a universal certification of an ISP, service-level agreement or every route on the internet. 0bps does not label ordinary HTTP failures as native packet-loss measurements and does not pretend browser JavaScript can inspect router queues directly. Where a result is heuristic or advisory, the site describes it that way.
